What do you do?
2005 5 minute portraits DV Format
– What do you do?
– Do you like what you are doing?
– What would you do in an ideal world?
Every morning thousands walk to work from London Bridge. When faced with the above questions they are startled, unprepared, never thought about it, or just rather don't want to work at all. The idea of working and living have been separated, to the extend of being forced, and ultimately alienated.

Margaret Jessop (MBE) has been labeled with bipolar affective disorder in 1965. At the age of 73 she spends her days playing bridge on the internet, knitting, listening to jazz standards. She also educates the mental health professionals for better care of the individuals affected by the system. Or as she puts it, “she is busy aging as disgracefully as possible.”
The Tree that Smiles at Me
2007 27 Minutes HDV
The tree that smiles at me is the third portrait in exploration of the nature of man in relation to work. As such, it observes a man who creates instruments his own way, in his own time, on his own. A saz (long-necked lute) maker, an artisan, Kemal Usta (Master) is an exceptionally gifted and an exceptionally stubborn man. He gives his biggest fight with the trees in his atelier, picking which tree speaks to him, and which refuses to work with him and which is just the perfect one.
