Promised you a miracle is an essay-film tracing an infinite journey — across lands, seas, and air — toward a miracle that never arrives. Along the way: thunderstorms, humpback whales, erupting volcanoes; lands, people, and animal companions left behind. Thinking through Hannah Arendt, Timothy Morton, and the Book of Miracles, a migrant reflects on miracles political and spiritual — for migration and miracle share the same hunger, a future more livable than this one. As Ocean Vuong asks, "what is a country, but a life sentence?" Through split screens and a restless road trip, the film weaves an interspecies montage, waiting together for the miracle that might get us out of this mess.
